CHOC EXPANSION AND CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

CHOC Children’s is building one of the most advanced children’s hospitals in the world!

To better accommodate the growing needs of our community’s children and propel us closer to becoming nationally recognized as a premier children’s hospital, CHOC is building a new state-of-the-art patient care tower set to open on our main campus in 2013.

When completed, the new CHOC Children’s Hospital will feature pediatric surgical suites and related services, emergency, laboratory, pathology, imaging and radiology services, as well as private rooms, a dynamic and family-friendly lobby, inviting outdoor gardens, a café and more.

The building process for a project this size is complex and lengthy, but we are working diligently to limit the inconveniences caused by the construction, and remain dedicated to the highest standards of patient care and safety.

We are also committed to keeping you informed of our upcoming construction activities:

Beginning June 15 – the existing main hospital entrance and driveway closed. Our new entrance and driveway, as well as the patient drop-off/pick up area, valet booth and shuttle stop will move slightly north and face Pepper Street. You’ll notice our new driveway will be slightly smaller, but our parking and valet attendants are on hand to assist you with the safest and promptest route to your destination.

Beginning June 8 – preparation work for the demolition of our hospital’s annex stairwell – located near the existing main hospital entrance – will begin. You’ll notice additional fencing in place to ensure the safety of everyone on our campus.

As of May 26 – the west bound, right hand lane on La Veta Avenue, from Pepper Street to the five-story parking structure, was closed. This lane closure is expected to last the duration of the tower construction.

For your safety, please pay close attention to signage, barricades, and flagmen, and do not ignore sidewalk closure signs. Traffic signs alerting motorists to the lane closure will be placed along La Veta, starting west of Batavia.

As of April 30 – The two-story visitor parking structure, adjacent to the hospital lobby, was closed. The demolition of the two-story visitor parking structure, the 1201 medical office building and the Hospital’s North Annex stairwell is currently underway.

Parking and Shuttle Service

Parking for our patients’ families and visitors is available in the five-story parking structure, off of Main Street and Providence Avenue.

Shuttle service for our patients, families and visitors began on April 27 and will last the duration of our construction. This service will be provided daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with shuttle stops located in front of the main hospital driveway, and on Providence Avenue in front of the five-story parking structure.

Valet service is also available and there is a small area in front of the main hospital entrance for prompt patient drop-off/pick-up.

During the construction, traffic patterns may change, and additional barricades/fencing will be erected. Please pay close attention to signage and to flagmen to help direct you safely on our campus.

Due to the construction, you may experience some noise or vibration during your stay with us. Please ask your charge nurse or a manager about ear plugs and portable CD players for your use.
